MUSCAT : The resolution, submitted by Egypt and endorsed by 120 countries during the IAEA’s 69th General Conference, emphasizes the urgent need for greater transparency and accountability in nuclear activities across the region.

According to Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the measure reinforces global commitments under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and seeks to counter the spread of nuclear weapons. It specifically urges all states in the region to accept comprehensive IAEA safeguards, join the NPT, and move forward on establishing a long-envisioned nuclear-weapon-free zone in the Middle East.
