SINGAPORE : Garg, who was in Singapore as the cultural brand ambassador for the 4th North East India Festival, was rescued from the sea but later succumbed to his injuries in hospital, according to multiple reports. The festival, held on September 20 and 21 at Suntec Singapore, was set to showcase the region’s rich culture through music, dance, craft, and cuisine. Garg was scheduled to perform on the opening night with his popular Hindi, Bengali, and Assamese numbers.
Just days before the tragedy, on September 16, Garg posted a heartfelt video on Instagram inviting audiences in Singapore to join the festival.
Tributes have poured in from across India, with Assam’s Health and Family Welfare Minister Ashok Singhal paying homage to “Zubeen da” on X, reflecting the deep sense of loss in the region.
