DOHA : Arab and Islamic nations will hold an emergency summit in Doha on Monday to address the fallout from Israel’s recent airstrike on the Qatari capital, a move that has drawn widespread condemnation as a blatant violation of sovereignty.

The strike, carried out on September 9 and aimed at Hamas figures allegedly based in Qatar, has been denounced across the region as a dangerous escalation. For Qatar, which has long played a mediating role in the Gaza conflict, the attack was seen as both a breach of trust and a challenge to its diplomatic standing.

The summit will bring together heads of state and senior officials from across the Arab and Islamic world. Leaders are expected to endorse a resolution drafted by foreign ministers that highlights the gravity of the attack, calls for accountability, and explores measures to safeguard the region’s security.

Gulf countries, including the UAE, have already voiced strong disapproval. Abu Dhabi summoned Israel’s ambassador last week in protest, describing the strike as a “serious breach of international law.” Iranian officials, meanwhile, have urged concrete action, warning that failure to respond collectively risks emboldening Israel further.

The discussions are also likely to touch on civil aviation security, regional stability, and the role of the United States — which maintains close ties with both Israel and Qatar. Diplomats say the summit will be an important test of whether Arab and Islamic states can unify around a firm position rather than limiting their response to symbolic condemnation.

Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, reiterated his country’s stance that it will take “all necessary steps” to protect its sovereignty and ensure its national security.

The outcome of the Doha summit could shape the trajectory of regional diplomacy at a time when the Gulf is grappling with heightened tension and uncertainty following Israel’s unprecedented strike.
