Sohar Port handles 34 metric tonnes of cargo in the first half of 2025 as investments and digital upgrades drive growth

Muscat: The port authority confirmed that dredging work at the LNG jetty has been completed, enhancing Oman’s energy export capabilities and positioning Sohar as a key player in global trade flows. Emil Hochsteden, CEO of Sohar Port, said the results reflect “the viability and clarity of the strategy” focused on long-term growth, supply chain resilience, and Oman Vision 2040.

During the same period, Sohar Freezone signed six land lease agreements worth over US$1.3 billion, covering 92 hectares, with projects spanning green manufacturing, logistics, and energy. Construction is also underway on a 670-hectare infrastructure expansion project aimed at attracting advanced industries and reinforcing the zone’s role as a hub for sustainable industrial development.

Acting CEO Mohammed bin Ali Al Shezawi highlighted that the expansion reflects investor confidence, adding that the strategy aligns with global moves toward green energy and the circular economy.

Local content also grew significantly, with 62% of purchase orders awarded to Omani firms and 96% of procurement directed to local suppliers, up from 91% last year. The port also expanded its social responsibility programs, benefiting more than 3,471 people through initiatives in education, healthcare, and social development.
