Oman backs UN ‘New York Declaration’ on Palestine, urges action for lasting peace

Oman has welcomed the adoption of the New York Declaration by the United Nations General Assembly, which outlines a roadmap for the peaceful resolution of the Palestinian issue.

Muscat: Oman reaffirmed its support for the declaration, calling on the UN Security Council to ensure its provisions are translated into concrete actions to achieve a just and lasting peace in the region.

The resolution, introduced by France, was backed by an overwhelming majority of 142 nations, while 10 voted against it and 12 abstained. Countries opposing the measure included Israel, the United States, Argentina, Hungary, and Paraguay, among others.

Key elements of the roadmap include:

An immediate ceasefire in Gaza

Release of all hostages

Establishment of a viable and sovereign Palestinian state

Disarmament of Hamas and its removal from governance in Gaza

Normalization of relations between Israel and Arab nations

Collective security guarantees for regional stability

Oman emphasized that the declaration aligns with international law and the principles of justice, stressing the urgent need for unified global action to end the ongoing humanitarian crisis and restore the rights of the Palestinian people.
