MUSCAT: Marking a landmark for Paralympic sports in the Sultanate, Asaad bin Khalifa Al Salmi has become the first Omani to earn the prestigious International Blind Sports Association (IBSA) referee badge in blind goalball.
In a historic step for Oman’s sporting landscape, Al Salmi successfully completed international referee studies in Egypt at the end of August 2025 under the supervision of Turkish expert Bulent Kenyon. The course drew wide participation from referees across the globe.
With this achievement, Al Salmi joins an elite pool of referees in the West Asia region and positions Oman as a potential host for international blind sports championships. His accomplishment is also expected to inspire the next generation of referees and athletes to engage in Paralympic disciplines, further advancing inclusivity in Omani sports.
