Dubai: While their batting faltered at times, the bowlers dominated, securing a confidence-boosting win before their much-anticipated showdown against India.

Coming into the game high on confidence after winning the Sharjah Tri-series earlier this month, Pakistan once again leaned on their bowling strength. Despite visible gaps in the batting order, the bowlers dismantled Oman’s lineup with precision and variety.

Notably, Pakistan fielded three frontline spinners, an unusual move for the side. The gamble paid off handsomely. Saim Ayub made early inroads, while left-arm wrist spinner Sufiyan Muqeem proved unplayable at times. Abrar Ahmed, who started without much luck, claimed the final wicket to wrap up Oman’s innings. Shaheen Shah Afridi, returning to his best rhythm, and Faheem Ashraf also chipped in with crucial breakthroughs.

The decisive moment came in the 17th over when Abrar dismissed Shakeel Ahmed, caught by Afridi at long-off, sealing Oman’s innings and Pakistan’s dominant 93-run victory.

For Oman, the contest was more about gaining valuable exposure against a higher-ranked side. Despite flashes of resistance, they were overwhelmed by Pakistan’s spin-heavy attack.

Pakistan will be buoyed by this performance, particularly their bowling unit’s sharpness. However, the batting department still requires fine-tuning if they are to challenge top sides in the Asia Cup.

With India up next, Pakistan’s win sets the perfect stage for one of cricket’s fiercest rivalries.
