ISLAMABAD – Authorities are seeking to reinforce dams to cope with water levels that have risen to the official danger level, while rescue operations, which began Tuesday night, continue.

Relief Commissioner Nabil Javed noted that approximately 142,000 people in the region were affected by the floods, with many displaced residents taking refuge in relatives’ homes, while others were forced to spend sleepless nights on water barriers or in relief camps after their homes were submerged.
Rescue boats pulled people trapped from trees and rooftops.

Since August 23, nearly 4,000 villages in Punjab province have been submerged, affecting more than 4.2 million people, displacing 2.1 million, and killing at least 68.
