Kathmandu: The disruption left multiple airlines grounded, with IndiGo and Nepal Airlines also suspending services between New Delhi and Kathmandu. Officials confirmed that nearly a third of scheduled flights were affected by the shutdown.

An Air India source said one of the carrier’s flights had to return to Delhi after smoke was reported at Kathmandu airport during its final approach.

The cancellations came as Nepal grappled with escalating unrest, forcing authorities to temporarily close its main international gateway.
