MUSCAT : Restaurants and catering groups across Oman reported unprecedented demand for the traditional Onam sadhya this year, with many outlets filling up their pre-bookings weeks in advance.

Premium Indian restaurants such as Woodlands, Imperial Kitchen, and Foodlands even extended the sadhya to a second day on Saturday, allowing more families to experience the grand feast after initial bookings quickly sold out.

Served on banana leaves with over 20 dishes, including avial, olan, sambar, pickles, and payasams, the Onam sadhya remains the centerpiece of celebrations for Keralites abroad. In Oman, the rising demand reflects both the growing community presence and the cultural importance of keeping traditional festivities alive.

Restaurant owners noted that despite preparing record volumes, orders surpassed expectations, with corporate bookings and family packages adding to the rush. For many businesses, this year marked one of their busiest Onam seasons in recent memory.
