BEIJING : China marked the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II with its largest-ever military parade, where President Xi Jinping stood alongside Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un in a striking show of unity.

The Tiananmen Square spectacle featured thousands of troops, tanks, missile carriers and fighter jets, along with the first public display of China’s full nuclear triad and advanced systems such as hypersonic missiles and underwater drones.

Xi declared the world faces a choice between “peace or war,” vowing that China would never bow to external pressure — remarks widely seen as directed at the United States and its allies.

Putin and Kim’s attendance underlined the tightening ties between Beijing, Moscow and Pyongyang, sending a clear geopolitical signal of defiance to the West.

Analysts say the parade showcased China’s growing ambitions, though questions remain over how battle-ready much of the hardware truly is.
