Muscat – The Muscat Municipality has launched a new public awareness campaign urging consumers to check food expiry dates and adopt safe practices when purchasing and storing food items.

The initiative, rolled out under the slogan “Check Food Expiry Dates, Protect Your Well-being,” highlights the importance of consumer vigilance in safeguarding health and preventing foodborne risks.

As part of the campaign, the Municipality shared five key tips for ensuring food safety:

  • Always check product expiry dates before buying.
  • Read food labels carefully.
  • Avoid purchasing items close to expiry unless necessary.
  • Store products at the recommended temperature.
  • Keep fresh, canned, and frozen items separate.

Officials emphasized that food safety is a shared responsibility between suppliers, regulators, and consumers, and called on shoppers to play an active role in protecting their families by making informed choices.

The campaign comes as part of wider municipal efforts to raise awareness on public health and consumer safety, ensuring higher standards of quality and trust in the local market.
