Muscat, August 30, 2025 (TAS/Agencies) — As more than 850,000 students prepare to return to classrooms across the Sultanate, Her Excellency Dr. Madiha bint Ahmed Al Shaibaniyah, Minister of Education, has set out the ministry’s vision and priorities for the new academic year 2025/2026.
Dr. Al Shaibaniyah said the ministry’s recent qualitative achievements have already reflected positively on the development and quality of education in Oman, and emphasized that the coming period will see a stronger focus on improving learning outcomes across multiple areas.

International benchmarking: Oman will participate in the Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS) to assess reading skills of Grade 4 students.
National evaluation system: The ministry will begin implementing the National School Performance Evaluation System, starting with 100 government and private schools in its first phase.
Artificial intelligence in education: The ministry will expand the use of AI applications in classrooms to strengthen students’ learning and broaden access to knowledge.
Vocational and technical pathways: Efforts to expand vocational and technical education will continue, with new specializations in tourism and travel studies introduced in schools in Dhofar and Al Dakhiliyah governorates.
The minister stressed that these initiatives are directly aligned with Oman Vision 2040, which aims to build a comprehensive educational system, ensure sustainable learning, and prepare a generation equipped with knowledge, skills, and competitiveness for the future.
“The ministry is determined to continue building on its progress by introducing modern educational practices and tools that meet international standards, while also addressing national development priorities,” Dr. Al Shaibaniyah said.
The start of the new academic year marks another milestone in the ministry’s long-term efforts to enhance Oman’s education sector and to support its transformation into a knowledge-based society.
