Abu Dhabi: The UAE’s National Media Office (NMO) has announced that a group of social media users has been referred to the Federal Public Prosecution for breaching the country’s media content standards.

According to the NMO, its specialized monitoring team works around the clock to track and evaluate online activity across platforms. Accounts found to be in violation of media guidelines are initially notified and urged to correct their content. However, in cases of repeated or serious breaches, legal action is pursued.

The authority stressed that these measures are part of wider efforts to promote a responsible and ethical media environment that protects the community from harmful, misleading, or offensive content. It also reiterated the importance of ensuring that digital communications remain consistent with the UAE’s laws, social values, and media ethics.

Earlier this year, Sheikh Abdullah Al Hamed, Chairman of the NMO and the UAE Media Council, underscored the principle that “words are a trust,” emphasizing that media should unite communities rather than serve as a tool for harm.

The NMO urged all social media users to act responsibly online and to ensure their posts reflect integrity, accountability, and respect for the law.
