SANAA : Israel launched a series of airstrikes on Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, on Sunday, targeting sites linked to the Houthi movement following missile and drone attacks the group carried out against Israel earlier this week.

According to the Israeli military, the strikes were aimed at military facilities, an oil processing plant, a power station, and the presidential complex. Explosions were reported across the city, with residents describing heavy blasts near Sabeen Square and other central locations.

The Iran-aligned Houthis, who control Sanaa and much of northern Yemen, said their air defenses engaged Israeli aircraft during the assault. Houthi-run Al Masirah television claimed several jets were forced to retreat, though this could not be independently verified.

Senior Houthi official Mohammed al-Bukhaiti condemned the strikes, vowing that the group would continue its operations “in support of Gaza” despite the escalation.

The confrontation underscores a dangerous widening of the regional conflict, with Israel expanding its military response beyond Gaza and Lebanon to include Houthi-controlled Yemen, a key ally of Iran.
