New Delhi: Veteran Indian batsman Cheteshwar Pujara, one of the finest Test specialists of his generation, has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket.

In an emotional statement shared on social media, the 36-year-old cricketer from Rajkot reflected on his journey from a young boy with dreams of representing India to becoming a mainstay of the national team.

“As a little boy from the small town of Rajkot, I dreamt of wearing the Indian jersey. This game has given me invaluable opportunities, love, and purpose. With immense gratitude, I have decided to retire from all forms of Indian cricket,” Pujara wrote.

The former India No. 3 thanked the BCCI, Saurashtra Cricket Association, and all the teams, franchises, and counties he represented over his two-decade-long career. He expressed deep appreciation for his mentors, coaches, teammates, and family for their unwavering support.

Widely hailed as the backbone of India’s Test batting lineup, Pujara amassed over 7,000 Test runs, playing a pivotal role in historic series victories, including India’s triumphs in Australia. His grit, patience, and resilience earned him comparisons to Rahul Dravid and the reputation of being India’s modern-day “Wall.”

Pujara also acknowledged the fans: “The energy and passion of the supporters have been a constant source of motivation. I have been humbled by the love I’ve received wherever I played.”

Looking ahead, he said he plans to dedicate more time to his family while cherishing the memories of an illustrious cricketing career.
