MUSCAT : The circular, dated August 10, 2025, references a recent CBSE directive (CBSE/COORD/Shortage-Attend./2025) that outlines the minimum 75 percent attendance requirement for students to be eligible to sit for board examinations.

The school warned that students falling short of this requirement may face disqualification unless their absence is justified under approved categories such as medical emergencies or participation in national or international events, accompanied by valid documentation.

Pointing out that regular attendance is vital for a student’s academic success, personal development, and overall well-being, the circular stressed that frequent absenteeism or failure to submit proper leave records could result in a student being treated as a non-attending or ‘dummy’ candidate.

The CBSE has also indicated it may carry out surprise inspections to verify student attendance records. Students found in violation during such checks may be barred from appearing in their board exams.
The circular from Principal Rakesh Joshi reads as follows: “As per the CBSE Examination Bye Laws, a minimum of 75% attendance is mandatory for students to be eligible to appear for the Board examinations. The Board offers a 25% relaxation only in cases of exigencies such as medical emergencies, participation in national or international sports events, and other serious reasons, if supported by the necessary documents/record.

“Any student, if on leave due to a medical emergency, needs to apply for the leave to the school with proper medical prescription and certificate etc. immediately after falling ill.

“In the rest of the cases, the student will follow the due process for availing the leave informing the valid reason for leave in writing to the school at the time of availing leave.

“In case, any student is not serious about his/her attendance and frequently availing the leave or not attending school without proper leave records it will be presumed that they are doing it intentionally and may be treated as non-attending/dummy candidates.

“The CBSE may conduct surprise inspections to verify student attendance records. During such inspections, if it is found that students who have not been attending the school regularly may face strict action, including disqualification from appearing in the board exams.

“Parents are requested to comply with the above directions from CBSE regarding the regular attendance.”
