MUSCAT – Spanning 51 kilometres, the project is a key infrastructure milestone aimed at strengthening Duqm’s Duqm’s position as a global investment and logistics hub.

The dual carriageway extends 42.9 kilometres with two lanes in each direction, supported by an 11.5 kilometres network of secondary roads, including roundabout entrances and roads connecting to the airport.

The project connects the oil tanks in Ras Markaz to Duqm Airport, passing through the Green Industries Zone and a number of major projects currently under construction. It also connects the road leading to Dhahr Village and the strategic road leading to Salalah.

Eng. Abdullah bin Salem Al Hakmani, Director of the Technical Affairs Department at SEZAD, emphasised that the opening of the project represents a qualitative leap in the development of infrastructure in Duqm. It facilitates movement between key vital facilities and connects the airport to energy projects and strategic industries, enhancing the region’s attractiveness to investors.

He added that the project, which cost RO 57.6 million, adhered to the highest international quality standards and the specified timetable, reflecting the commitment to providing a safe and sustainable environment for economic and logistical activities.

He explained that the dual carriageway will contribute to enhancing SEZAD’s competitiveness at the regional and international levels. Thanks to an infrastructure that is capable of accommodating the rapid growth of investments and supporting logistics supply chains, which are fundamental pillars for attracting investments in the energy, petrochemical, and support services sectors.

According to Saif bin Saeed Al Amri, Project Engineer at Oman Development Company for the Special Economic Zone at Duqm (Tatweer), the project is comprehensive in its scope, it includes the implementation of a modern lighting network equipped with a smart control and management system, connecting it to advanced electrical networks. This is in addition to culverts that will drain rainwater along the road so as to ensure sustainability of the infrastructure and traffic safety in various climatic conditions.

He added that a portion of the project’s value has been allocated to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), enhancing the involvement of national companies in major projects and supporting the local economy. It also provides direct and indirect job opportunities for national talent.

He explained that this achievement confirms the SEZAD’s commitment to invest in integrated infrastructure that forms a solid foundation for accommodating industrial, commercial, and tourism projects, while transforming Duqm into a global, multi-sector economic hub.
