NEW DELHI – As per Indian media reports, the delegation was scheduled to hold discussions from August 25 to 29, but the trip has now been called off, delaying talks on a proposed trade agreement between the two countries.

Reports indicate that the current round of bilateral negotiations is likely to be postponed to a later date, dashing hopes of reaching an understanding that might ease the tariffs before the new package comes into effect on August 27.

Earlier this month, U.S. President Donald Trump announced an additional 25 percent tariff on Indian goods, citing New Delhi’s continued imports of Russian oil.

These new measures are expected to raise tariff rates on certain Indian exports to around 50 percent, making them among the highest imposed on any US trading partner.
It’s worth noting that trade talks between New Delhi and Washington collapsed after five rounds of negotiations due to disagreements over opening up India’s agriculture and dairy sectors, in addition to the issue of Russian oil imports.
