MUSCAT : This marks a notable increase compared to the 24,093 visitors – from within and outside the Sultanate of Oman – recorded during the same period in 2024.

According to Dr. Al Mutasim Nasser Al Hilali, Director of the Department of Heritage and Tourism in South Al Batinah, Wakan’s unique natural and cultural attractions have made it a year-round destination for domestic and international tourists.

He attributed the increase in tourist activity during summer to the moderate weather conditions in the village and the timing of the seasonal fruit harvests. The harvest season begins with apricots in early June, followed by peaches, then figs and pomegranates in July, and finally local grapes in August. These seasonal events, particularly during official holidays and weekends, draw large numbers of visitors to the village.

He added that the opening of the View Café, the third café in the village, has also contributed to encouraging visitors to visit the village.

Additionally, Wakan Village offers a range of authentic tourism experiences, including mountain accommodations through a local guesthouse, and hiking trails along ancient agricultural paths and mountain routes, which are popular among adventure tourists from around the world.

The village also has its share of archaeological landmarks, including an ancient mosque, an old neighbourhood, and agricultural terraces dating back hundreds of years.
