NEW YORK : It called for enhanced regional and international cooperation and continuous coordination to support the safety of navigation and maritime security.

This statement was delivered by His Highness Sayyid Shihab bin Harib Al Said, First Secretary and member of Oman’s Permanent Delegation to the United Nations in New York, during the high-level Security Council session titled ‘Maritime Security: Prevention, Innovation, and International Cooperation to Address Emerging Challenges’. The session was held within the framework of discussion on ‘Maintenance of International Peace and Security’.

Oman highlighted the importance it attaches to maritime security, given its natural resources, geographical factors, and strategic location overlooking the Strait of Hormuz – a strategic passageway for international trade, maritime navigation, and global seaborne oil exports.

The Sultanate also reviewed its national efforts aimed at enhancing the security and safety of maritime navigation. This includes its role in facilitating a ceasefire agreement between the United States of America and the relevant authorities in Sana’a, the Republic of Yemen, ensuring freedom of navigation and the smooth flow of international commercial shipping in the Red Sea.
