TEHRAN – The announcement was made during a press conference in Tehran by Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Saeed Khatibzadeh.

“Negotiations are not an end in themselves, but rather a means to reach just and equitable solutions,” Khatibzadeh stated. “We have repeatedly demonstrated our good faith, and we are ready to return to the negotiating table if the other parties are willing to abide by their commitments and lift sanctions.”
The spokesman pointed out that Iran’s nuclear programme is entirely peaceful. “We do not seek to possess nuclear weapons,” he stressed, adding: “Iran’s right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes is a non-negotiable right.”

These statements come amid heightened tensions in the region and the stalling of nuclear negotiations between Iran and major powers for several months.
