India is driving its ‘Viksit Bharat’ vision for a developed future by rapidly modernising its railway and agriculture sectors, highlighted by the success of its Vande Bharat Express and a self-reliant agricultural system.

The semi-high speed train Vande Bharat Express is a revolution in Indian railway travel, embodying the “Make in India” initiative by showcasing indigenous train manufacturing capabilities. It combines speed, comfort, and safety, setting new benchmarks for rail travel in India and beyond. With 72 operational Vande Bharat trains already running, Indian Railways is now set to develop and manufacture 400 next-generation Vande Bharat trains over the next three years, featuring enhanced energy efficiency and superior passenger comfort.

Bharat is cultivating a modern and self-reliant agricultural system. It leads the world in producing milk, pulses, and spices, supported by record foodgrain harvests. Spending on crop procurement has tripled, and climate-resilient varieties are being introduced under missions like Mission Mausam (Weather Mission). River-linking projects such as the Ken-Betwa and Parbati-Kalisindh-Chambal will transform irrigation in drought-prone areas. Eight lakh cooperative societies with nearly thirty crore members form a vibrant network that drives employment and development, and Bharat’s leadership is being celebrated as the world marks the International Year of Cooperatives. The PM Kisan Samman Nidhi has provided direct financial assistance to 100 million small farmers.  

Kisan Credit Card (KCC) provides farmers with timely and affordable short term credit for purchasing agricultural inputs such as seeds, fertilisers, and pesticides, as well as for meeting cash requirements related to crop production and allied activities. KCC coverage has crossed 77 mn farmers as of December 31, 2024.
