WASHINGTON : Under a new executive order signed ahead of a Friday trade deal deadline, Trump outlined import duties as high as 41%, the most severe imposed on Syria, and raised tariffs on Canadian goods from 25% to 35%. India’s rate remains at 25%, while Pakistan saw a sharp reduction in duties from 29% to 19% after a newly announced oil development agreement with the United States.
Trump added that the U.S. will continue to hold trading partners accountable unless they address economic imbalances and align with American national security priorities.

In addition to country-specific hikes, a universal tariff of 10% will remain for nations with which the U.S. maintains a trade surplus, a policy first implemented on April 2. Sector-specific duties, including new copper tariffs, are also being introduced.
