MUSCAT : On Wednesday, Barcelona confirmed that Yamal will don the legendary No. 10 jersey starting next season, succeeding Ansu Fati, who recently joined AS Monaco on a season-long loan. The announcement was made during a family event celebrating Yamal’s new contract, which runs through 2031.

The teenager, already a rising star for both Barcelona and Spain, has made 106 appearances and scored 25 goals for the Catalan side. He becomes the latest in a line of legends—including Messi, Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, and Maradona—to wear the famed shirt.

Messi famously wore the No. 10 from 2008 until his 2021 departure to PSG, becoming the club’s all-time top scorer and leading them to 10 LaLiga titles and four Champions League trophies. Fati took on the number after Messi’s exit, but injuries hampered his momentum at Camp Nou.

Yamal, who previously wore numbers 41, 27, and most recently 19—the same jersey Messi wore before taking on the No. 10—has already racked up accolades, including two LaLiga titles, a Copa del Rey, and a Spanish Supercopa. He was also part of Spain’s Euro-winning squad this summer.
