Muscat: The OFA Board of Directors announced the appointment on July 10, 2025, highlighting the decision as a step toward harnessing Al Habsi’s extensive experience at both regional and international levels.
Al Habsi retired from professional football in August 2020, closing a celebrated chapter in which he earned recognition as one of the region’s most accomplished goalkeepers. Throughout his career, he received numerous awards and honors and became a symbol of sporting excellence for Oman.
He made history as the first Omani footballer to play in Europe, earning accolades for his performances in the English Premier League and elsewhere, while also serving as a key figure for the Oman national team for over a decade.
