GENEVA – The Sultanate of Oman is taking part in the meeting of WIPO assemblies – held in Geneva, Switzerland, until 17 July 2025 – under the leadership of His Excellency Dr. Saleh Said Masan, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion for Commerce and Industry.

In a speech at the event, His Excellency Dr. Saleh affirmed Oman’s national efforts to develop an integrated intellectual property system that covers digital infrastructure, the modernization of legislative frameworks, honing the skills of national cadres and raising public awareness about the culture of intellectual property. This approach, he said, stems from the conviction that intellectual property constitutes a fundamental pillar in supporting the growth of a knowledge-based economy and the promotion of innovation.

His Excellency Dr. Saleh pointed out that Oman made good progress in consolidating its cooperation the WIPO. This, he observed, was realized through Oman’s membership in international agreements related to intellectual property and the implementation of related projects. He added that these projects include supporting Omani frankincense producers and training them on the basics and management of intellectual property and its use in their establishments, in addition to raising the marketing value of Omani frankincense locally and internationally by using the intellectual property system as a geographical indicator.

Dr. Saleh valued WIPO’s cooperation with the Sultanate of Oman in implementing the National Intellectual Property Strategy project which, he said, seeks to establish a sustainable national intellectual property system that serves as an empowering measure for protecting innovation, enhancing the competitiveness of the national economy and encouraging the development of a culture of intellectual property.

He added that cooperation with WIPO experts took shape in the customization of the Omani version of the “Distance Learning Programme for Intellectual Property Fundamentals (DL101)” so that the programme could fit with the national laws and culture of the Sultanate of Oman. This is in addition to tapping the expertise of WIPO experts who provide technical advice in updating national legislation and proposing the best practices related to intellectual property, he said.

At the conclusion of his speech, Dr. Saleh reiterated the Sultanate of Oman’s full commitment to support the efforts of the WIPO and its bodies. He expressed Oman’s pledge to participate in efforts of joint action towards the realization of a more just, comprehensive and effective global intellectual property system that keeps pace with WIPO member states aspirations for sustainable development and protection of innovation.
