GURUGRAM : The incident occurred around 11:30 am on Thursday on the first floor of the Yadav family’s home in Sector 57, Gurugram. Police said Radhika’s father, Deepak Yadav, fired three rounds from his licensed .32 bore revolver after a heated altercation over a video Radhika had posted on Instagram.

Radhika, who had a doubles ranking of 113 in the International Tennis Federation (ITF), was rushed to a private hospital by family members but succumbed to her injuries during treatment.

Sandeep Kumar, public relations officer of Gurugram Police, confirmed that initial investigations pointed to the social media reel as the trigger. “The father became agitated and shot her. The weapon used was a licensed revolver and has been recovered from the house,” he said.

Rajender Kumar, SHO of Sector 56 Police Station, stated that the police were alerted by the hospital. He mentioned that they received a call about a woman with gunshot wounds. By the time they arrived, she had passed away.

Deepak Yadav, 49, has since been arrested, and the weapon has been seized.

Radhika Yadav, born on March 23, 2000, was a rising name in Indian tennis, with her profile featured on tenniskhelo.com and multiple top-200 finishes in ITF doubles rankings.

In a separate and equally tragic incident from Gurugram, a 30-year-old man named Ketan surrendered to police after allegedly strangling his wife Jyoti during a domestic dispute in Rajendra Park. According to police, the altercation turned violent after Jyoti slapped him. Ketan, who works at Jewar Airport’s cargo department, had been married to Jyoti for six years and is a father of two.

Authorities are continuing investigations into both cases, which highlight a growing concern over domestic violence and family-related crimes.
