LONDON: Polish eighth seed Iga Swiatek advanced to the Wimbledon quarter-finals for the second time in her career with a commanding 6-4, 6-1 victory over Denmark’s 23rd seed Clara Tauson on Monday.
Despite being a five-time Grand Slam champion, Swiatek has never reached the final at Wimbledon.

However, with several top seeds already eliminated, the 24-year-old finds herself in a strong position heading into the second week. She will face Russian 19th seed Liudmila Samsonova, who advanced to her first Grand Slam quarter-final with a 7-5, 7-5 victory over Spain’s Jessica Bouzas Maneiro.

Swiatek has only reached one Wimbledon quarter-final before, but she recently made it to the final at the Bad Homburg tournament on grass and is also a former Wimbledon junior champion. After her impressive run in Bad Homburg, Swiatek admitted that grass has always been a challenging surface for her, saying maybe there is hope for her on it.

Despite her past struggles on grass, the former world number one is now just three wins away from adding a Wimbledon title to her already impressive collection, which includes four French Open trophies and one US Open crown.
