ATHENS: As a punishing heatwave grips Greece for the second time since late June, authorities have ordered a midday work stoppage for all outdoor workers from noon to 5 p.m. to prevent heat-related health risks. In Athens, the iconic Acropolis closed its gates during peak heat hours on Tuesday to protect tourists and staff.
Meanwhile, Greek firefighters are battling up to 50 wildfires a day, with much of the country on high alert due to dry, windy conditions.
Elsewhere in Europe, severe summer storms caused chaos across Croatia, Hungary, and Slovakia, knocking out power and disrupting transport networks as the region struggles with extreme weather.
