Washington – Musk, the founder of Tesla and SpaceX, made the announcement on his social media platform X, declaring: “Today, the America Party was founded to give you back your freedom.”
The statement comes amid Musk’s intensifying criticism of the political establishment, particularly his opposition to the latest federal budget bill, which includes a controversial raise to the national debt ceiling.
The announcement follows a poll Musk launched on X two days ago, coinciding with U.S. Independence Day, in which he asked followers whether a new political party was needed. The response was overwhelming—65 percent of 1.2 million participants supported the idea.
Commenting on the poll results, he said: “By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!”
“When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy. Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom,” Musk wrote.
Musk was a close ally of U.S. President Donald Trump, helping fund his 2024 presidential campaign and chairing a government committee on efficiency and federal spending. However, relations between the two parties soured last May after public disagreements over several issues, including budget transparency.
