NYON: The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) announced today that it has imposed millions of euros in fines on several clubs for failing to comply with approved financial rules. Leading the list are FC Barcelona and Chelsea FC, which were slapped with fines of €15 million and €20 million respectively by the Club Financial Control Board.
According to a statement released on UEFA’s official website, the sanctions stem from the clubs’ inability to meet key financial sustainability criteria. The statement warned that if these clubs continue to fall short of financial targets in the coming seasons, they could face additional penalties amounting to tens of millions of euros.
French club Olympique Lyonnais has also been fined €12.5 million, while English side Aston Villa was penalised €5 million. Both clubs, like Barcelona and Chelsea, have been cautioned that continued violations could result in further sanctions.
