Washington: U.S. Representative Buddy Carter (R-Ga.) announced the nomination in a letter to the Nobel Committee, praising Trump’s efforts in ending what he termed the “12-Day War” between Israel and Iran. The conflict had erupted after Israel launched a preemptive strike citing Iran’s advancing nuclear weapons programme, followed by retaliatory exchanges and U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites.

“President Trump’s influence was instrumental in forging a swift agreement that many believed to be impossible,” Carter wrote. He further stated that Trump’s actions helped prevent “the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism from obtaining the most lethal weapon on the planet.”

Carter commended Trump’s leadership for embodying the ideals of the Nobel Peace Prize, citing his pursuit of peace, prevention of war, and promotion of global harmony. He added that the former president demonstrated “both courage and clarity” in navigating the high-stakes diplomatic tensions, describing the resulting ceasefire as “a rare glimpse of hope.”

Trump had declared on Monday that the ceasefire was imminent, with fighting scheduled to halt overnight on Tuesday. The agreement marked a sudden and unexpected resolution to a rapidly escalating conflict, with observers crediting behind-the-scenes diplomacy led by Washington.

This is not Trump’s first nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize. Earlier this year, Representative Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) also put forward Trump’s name, citing the geopolitical impact of his 2024 re-election victory.
