MUSCAT : The OFA is now preparing to hold elections to appoint a new president.
In a press release issued today, Sheikh Al Wahaibi reflected on his tenure, stating, “After a journey spanning two consecutive terms since 2016, I announce today my departure from the position of Chairman of the Oman Football Association. I was honoured with the opportunity to serve Oman football from a position of responsibility and to undertake a challenging and ambitious administrative experience.”
He emphasised that the primary objective throughout his leadership was “to advance the Omani football system in all its components, particularly competitions, national teams, and refereeing, and to build effective bridges of cooperation with various partners at both local and international levels.”
Under his guidance, the OFA Board of Directors focused on new avenues for investment and diversifying financial support through strategic partnerships with both public and private sectors to ensure sustainable development programs.
Sheikh Al Wahaibi highlighted several “honorable accomplishments” achieved during his time, attributing success to the collective efforts of the Board, OFA staff, clubs, supporters, and fans. These achievements include improvements in technical and administrative performance, the presence of national teams in regional and international competitions, and increased Omani representation in continental and international sports institutions.

Concluding his statement, Sheikh Al Wahaibi extended gratitude to all who supported him and contributed to Omani football’s progress. “Today, I leave this position, but I will not abandon my love, pride, or belonging to this system, which will always remain close to my heart,” he affirmed. He expressed his heartfelt wishes for success to his successor, hoping they “continue to build upon what has been achieved, with a new spirit and renewed vision, to realise what we all aspire for Oman, its football, and its fans.”
The OFA is expected to announce the election process for the new president in due course.
