Jakarta: Indonesian authorities reported that at least 20 flights to and from Bali were cancelled after the volcano erupted yesterday, spewing an ash cloud up to 10 kilometres into the atmosphere. So far, there have been no reports of damage or injuries.

However, the authorities raised the alert level to the highest level.
According to the Bali Airport website, affected flights include those operated by Jetstar and Virgin Australia bound for cities across Australia. Air India, Air New Zealand, Singapore’s Tigerair, and China’s Juneyao Airlines also cancelled services due to the volcanic eruption.

In addition, several domestic AirAsia flights to Labuan Bajo in Flores have also been cancelled.
Indonesia’s Disaster Mitigation Agency revealed that volcanic ash that fell on several villages around the Laki-Laki volcano forced residents to evacuate Tuesday night, noting that volcanic activity is still ongoing.

The Laki-Laki volcano erupted several times last November, killing nine people, cancelling dozens of international flights to Bali, and forcing thousands to flee.
