Tehran: Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, speaking with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, called for swift international intervention after Israeli strikes allegedly targeted Iranian soil, including sensitive nuclear facilities.

Araghchi denounced the attack as a blatant violation of Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, asserting that Tehran has the right to respond in self-defense under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.

The Iranian diplomat emphasized the urgent need for the UN Security Council to fulfill its mandate in preserving international peace and security. He called on the council to strongly condemn what he labeled as an act of aggression and to take immediate, concrete steps to hold Israel accountable.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres expressed concern over the rising tensions and condemned the Israeli attacks, particularly those on Iranian nuclear sites amid ongoing negotiations between Tehran and Washington. Guterres affirmed his commitment to leveraging the UN’s capabilities to prevent further escalation and to help restore regional stability.
