TEHRAN : Following the deaths of two of Iran’s top military commanders in Israeli strikes on Friday, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei moved quickly to restore the chain of command. In two official decrees, he named Mohammad Pakpour as the new commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), replacing General Hossein Salami.

Simultaneously, Khamenei appointed General Abdolrahim Mousavi as the new chief of the armed forces general staff, taking over from General Mohammad Bagheri. The appointments come amid heightened regional tensions and signal Tehran’s intent to maintain military stability and continuity in the face of escalating conflict with Israel.
