AHMEDABAD : The Boeing aircraft, operating as Flight AI 171, was carrying 242 passengers when it went down minutes after takeoff, plummeting into a densely populated area near the airport that included residential buildings and a medical college. Authorities have confirmed that the crash has claimed lives both on board and on the ground.
“There appears to be no survivor in the crash,” said GS Malik, Ahmedabad’s Police Commissioner, who is overseeing rescue operations. “The airplane fell on a residential and office zone, which has led to more casualties beyond those on the flight.”
As of Thursday evening, police confirmed that 204 bodies have been recovered from the wreckage. Additionally, 41 people are undergoing treatment for injuries sustained during the impact and ensuing fire.

The disaster site, engulfed in smoke and debris, has become the center of a massive rescue and recovery operation, with emergency teams still working through the wreckage. Authorities are continuing to identify the deceased and assess damage to nearby infrastructure.
