WEST INDIES : This brings an end to a nine-year career that saw him become the region’s most capped T20 player and leading run-scorer in the format.

Just weeks after lighting up the Indian Premier League with the Lucknow Super Giants, Pooran has decided to step away from the international arena. The Trinidadian cricketer leaves behind a prolific legacy, having scored more than 4,200 runs across formats in 167 appearances for the West Indies.

Pooran amassed 2,275 runs in 106 T20 Internationals, making him the most capped and highest run-getter for the Windies in the shortest format. In ODIs, he scored 1,983 runs at an average of 39.66, including three centuries and 11 half-centuries. While he never featured in Test cricket, his contribution in white-ball formats left a lasting mark.

The left-hander first represented the West Indies in the 2014 U19 World Cup and made his senior debut in a T20I against Pakistan in 2016. His ODI debut came two years later, and he was a part of the squad for the 2019 Cricket World Cup. Pooran also served as vice-captain during the 2021 T20 World Cup and later captained the team in both white-ball formats in 2022.

His final match for the national side came in December 2024, during an 80-run defeat to Bangladesh. In the months that followed, he opted out of West Indies’ white-ball tour of England, before announcing his international retirement via social media.

Pooran’s exit deals a major blow to the Caribbean side’s preparations for the 2026 T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka, with the team losing one of its most experienced and dynamic batters.
