Dubai: The UAE’s Golden Visa initiative—offering a 10-year residency—now welcomes a wider group of professionals following a series of new announcements aimed at enhancing key sectors of the country’s economy and society.

On May 12, in celebration of International Nurses Day, a new visa category was introduced for nurses. Under the directives of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Deputy Prime Minister, nurses who have served at Dubai Health for more than 15 years are now eligible for the Golden Visa. Sheikh Hamdan described nurses as “essential partners” in building a healthier society.

The education sector also receives a boost. Teachers and academic professionals in Dubai’s private schools, universities, and early learning centres can now apply for the Golden Visa, based on their achievements, innovation, and efforts to uplift educational standards. Managed by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), this initiative also allows eligible educators to sponsor their families.

Similarly, Ras Al Khaimah launched its own education-focused Golden Visa through the RAK Department of Knowledge, targeting educators including principals, heads of departments, and school directors.

In a move to support the growing creative economy, the UAE is now offering long-term visas to digital content creators, filmmakers, and influencers. First announced at the 1 Billion Followers Summit in January, this category is managed by Creators HQ. Applicants can apply online and benefit from sponsorship-free residency and professional support.

Professionals in the e-sports and gaming industry are also being welcomed under the new Golden Visa framework. As part of the Dubai Programme for Gaming 2033, individuals aged 25 and above can apply if accredited by Dubai Culture. Abu Dhabi’s Department of Culture and Tourism is similarly supporting gaming professionals under its own initiatives, aiming to position the UAE as a top global gaming destination.

Finally, Abu Dhabi has unveiled a unique visa stream for luxury yacht owners through the Golden Quay initiative. The programme, created by DCT Abu Dhabi in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Investment Office and Yas Marina, targets owners of yachts 40 metres or longer, as well as executives, insurers, and service providers in the marine industry. The visa also extends to immediate family members.
