Zurich: FIFA has announced the introduction of several pioneering technologies for the upcoming 32-team Club World Cup. Among the most striking additions is the use of body-mounted cameras on referees, offering fans an immersive, first-person view of the match directly from the officials’ vantage point. This live footage aims to bring fans closer to the action and foster a deeper understanding of in-game decisions.

In a further push for transparency, on-field referee reviews will now be broadcast live on giant stadium screens, allowing spectators to follow every detail of key decisions in real time.

The tournament will also feature an enhanced “semi-automated offside” system, which uses AI, in-ball sensors, and a network of cameras to precisely determine offside calls and instantly notify referees. While the technology will handle straightforward cases, assistant referees will still have input on complex scenarios.

For the first time, live match data will be processed using advanced algorithms, helping teams and officials make more informed decisions. Additionally, team substitutions will be managed through tablets, replacing traditional paper forms to streamline communication and minimize delays.
