DUBAI: Dubai Police on Friday arrested 41 people involved in a begging operation and recovered more than Dh60,000.

According to the Police, individuals, of Arab nationalities, were using a hotel as a base for their begging activities. The suspects, according to Dubai Police, had entered the UAE on visit visas.

Police started the investigation under the codename “Al Misbah”, after receiving a complaint received through the call centre about many individuals seen begging while selling prayer beads and accessories. The Police first caught three Arab individuals selling the items and asking for money from the public. “The suspects confessed to being part of a larger organised begging ring,” Dubai Police said.
