Muscat: Recovering over RO 2 million in revenue and 228 GWh of electricity, Nama Electricity Distribution Company, the national utility overseeing electricity distribution across all of Oman’s governorates except Dhofar, has revealed in its 2024 Annual Report that it has successfully identified and eliminated 3,557 cases of illegal power connections throughout the year.
The clampdown was part of a broader initiative to reduce system inefficiencies, which included intensive inspections of electrical connections and meters to detect tampering, unauthorized access, and faulty installations.
To further improve accuracy and reduce revenue loss, NEDC enhanced its meter reading operations, introducing a dedicated validation team for manual readings and expanding its use of Automated Meter Reading (AMR) technology. This digital transition allowed for real-time performance monitoring and minimized human error.
