Spanning over an area of more than 21,000 square meters, Al Khuwair Square is envisioned as a vibrant public space designed to enhance tourism, promote development, and offer diverse recreational and sports facilities. The surrounding area has been meticulously developed to include lush green spaces, inviting walkways, and dedicated bicycle paths, fostering a sense of community and well-being.
The centerpiece of this ambitious project is the flagpole itself, towering at an impressive 126 meters (equivalent to a 40-story building). This makes it the highest man-made facility in the Sultanate’s history. The flagpole utilized 135 tons of steel, featuring an outer diameter of 2,800mm at its base, tapering to 900mm at the top.
The Omani flag, measuring a significant 18 meters in length and 31.5 meters in width, will proudly fly from its apex. For aviation safety, the flagpole is equipped with a warning lighting system for aircraft.
The project, which carries an estimated cost of $10 million, is a testament to public-private sector collaboration, implemented in partnership with Jindal Steel. Beyond the iconic flagpole, Al Khuwair Square will offer a variety of recreational features including grass turf, palm trees, an outdoor exhibition area, and a skateboarding zone, promising a multifaceted space for residents and visitors alike.
