MUSCAT : Pankajakshan (59) and his wife Shajitha (53), originally from Kannur in Kerala, were tragically killed after a suspected gas explosion caused part of their residential-commercial building to collapse.
The couple, who had made Oman their home for over three decades, lived in an apartment situated above a ground-floor restaurant, believed to be the source of the explosion.
Initial investigations by the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority (CDAA) suggest the explosion was likely caused by a cooking gas leak inside the restaurant. Emergency teams responded swiftly, but despite their efforts, the couple could not be saved.
As per reports, the couple, both of who worked as accountants, were well-known within the local expatriate community. Their untimely deaths have left colleagues, friends, and neighbours reeling with grief.
