Muscat – The announcement came during the first roundtable gathering of stakeholders for the project, marking a key milestone in this national endeavour.

Led by the Ministry and supported by be’ah, the initiative is the first project of its kind in the MENA region, placing the Sultanate at the forefront of sustainable economic planning. It aims to assess Oman’s current use of natural resources and identify opportunities to enhance circularity, thereby reducing waste and maximising the value of resources across all stages of the economic cycle.

Commenting on the project, Dr. Aisha Al-Sarihiyya, Economic Expert at the Ministry of Economy, stated: “The concept of a circular economy extends beyond mere waste recycling; it ensures the optimal use of resources throughout all stages of the economic cycle, enhancing the connection between supply chains and, in turn, generating economic and social benefits alongside environmental gains.”
The project’s first stakeholder roundtable brought together policymakers, industry leaders, academic experts, and representatives from Circle Economy, the Netherlands-based organisation leading the global Circularity Gap Report initiative.

Ivonne Bojoh, CEO of Circle Economy, noted the significance of the occasion: “Today marks the first roundtable for the Circularity Gap Report Oman — the first of its kind in the MENA region. The collaboration among Omani stakeholders is a strong signal of the country’s readiness to lead systemic change for future generations.”

Tamara Fieldboer, Director at Circle Economy, praised the session’s productive discussions. “We saw Oman’s circular vision come to life through critical dialogue and practical solutions. The diverse perspectives and shared leadership demonstrated today will drive the nation’s circular transition forward.”
The baseline report being developed will provide clear insights and recommendations, forming the foundation for Oman’s national circular economy strategy and contributing to the broader objectives of sustainability and economic resilience outlined in Vision 2040.
