MUSCAT : Addressing the Summit, His Highness Sayyid Asa’ad, Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs and Personal Representative of His Majesty the Sultan, stated: “Gulf-US relations are long-term strategic relations aimed at establishing the foundations of security, stability, and prosperity. This partnership is embodied in a shared commitment to achieving integration and interdependence in political, economic, technological, and defence interests, and cooperation to resolve regional and international crises and challenges.”
Delegated by His Majesty the Sultan, His Highness is leading the Sultanate of Oman’s delegation to the Gulf-American Summit currently underway in Riyadh. The high-level summit brings together leaders from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the United States of America.
Commending the foreign policy approach of the current U.S. administration, His Highness remarked, “The Trump administration’s adoption of a policy of strategic diplomacy that favours dialogue and deal-making over escalation and confrontation represents a model approach that we welcome. By engaging all parties and challenging outdated theories, United States has opened a practical path for real positive change.”
His Highness also voiced support for ongoing dialogue between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran aimed at preventing nuclear proliferation, praising the process as “marked by realism and mutual respect.” His Highness expressed optimism about the potential for a sustainable and honourable agreement that ensures long-term regional security. “These efforts inspire us with confidence in the possibility of reaching a practical, honourable, and sustainable agreement between the two parties,” he added.
Turning to the Palestinian issue, His Highness affirmed that comprehensive peace, lasting security, and the desired prosperity for all cannot be achieved except through the establishment of an independent Palestinian state – enabling Palestinians and Israelis to coexist with dignity and sovereignty.
In conclusion, His Highness said, “We look forward to the continued global leadership of the US President Donald Trump administration to resolve this long-standing conflict, which has cast a long shadow over our region.”
