MUSCAT : The agreements, covering a total road length of 400 kilometres, mark a significant phase in the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to improve road safety, promote regional development, and support economic and social activity across the Sultanate.

Once completed, Sultan Said bin Taimur Road will become Oman’s longest dual carriageway, stretching from Muscat to Dhofar Governorate.

His Excellency Eng. Saeed bin Hamoud Al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, represented the Ministry at the signing ceremony. The ambitious project aims to enhance road safety, improve traffic flow, and stimulate economic and social development in the regions along the route.

The first agreement (Part Three) signed by the Ministry includes an Omani-Saudi coalition with Al-Sarooj Construction Company (Sultanate of Oman) in partnership with Al-Rawaf Contracting Company (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia), to implement the 132.5-kilometer section in 36 months. The scope includes a new dual carriageway with two lanes in each direction, 16 ground turning lanes, one overhead bridge, 115 reinforced concrete box culverts, 88 tube culverts, future broadband service channels, four rest stops, 21 public parking spaces, eight emergency median openings, 22 Royal Oman Police parking spaces, road rehabilitation works, and comprehensive traffic safety measures.

The second agreement (Part Four) was awarded to a joint venture between Galfar Engineering and Contracting Company (Oman) and Al Omair Trading and Contracting Company (Saudi Arabia). This 135-km section extends from Wilayat of Maqshan to the Duka area. The project features a new dual carriageway with two lanes in each direction, 14 ground turning lanes, one overhead bridge, 241 reinforced concrete box culverts, 95 tube culverts, future broadband service channels, three rest areas, eight emergency median openings, 25 Royal Oman Police parking spaces, road rehabilitation works, and extensive traffic safety provisions.

The third agreement (Part Five) involves a partnership between Gulf Oman Company (Oman) and Kom Al Fahad Trading, Industry and Contracting Company (Saudi Arabia). This 132.5-km section will run from the Duka area to Wilayat of Thumrait. This section will include a new dual carriageway with two lanes in each direction, 20 ground turning lanes, 101 reinforced concrete box culverts, 110 tube culverts, five rest areas, 16 public parking spaces, eight emergency median openings, 25 Royal Oman Police parking spaces, road rehabilitation works, and comprehensive traffic safety installations.

The dualization of these three sections will create a continuous dual carriageway from the Wilayat of Adam in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate to the Wilayat of Thumrait, building upon the previously completed 317 kilometres to the north. Upon completion, the Muscat Governorate to Dhofar Governorate route will become the longest dualised road in the Sultanate. This significant infrastructure development is expected to enhance safety for all road users, streamline vehicle movement, reduce traffic accidents, and provide a substantial boost to economic, social, and tourism activities in the regions it traverses, while also improving logistical connectivity across Omani governorates and opening avenues for future urban and economic growth.
