NEW YORK: UN Deputy Spokesperson Stephanie Tremblay welcomed Oman’s diplomatic efforts, noting that the agreement aims to reduce tensions, safeguard freedom of navigation, and prevent further attacks on international shipping vessels in one of the world’s most vital maritime corridors.
She expressed hope that this agreement would positively contribute to freedom of maritime navigation in the region and the smooth flow of international commercial shipping in accordance with international law.
The United Nations also reiterated its commitment to supporting Yemeni stakeholders in pursuing a negotiated political settlement to the ongoing conflict. Tremblay urged all involved parties to exercise restraint, avoid further escalation, and work constructively with the UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg.
