Doha – The move underscores Oman’s commitment to expanding employment horizons for its citizens and deepening strategic ties with fellow Gulf nations.

The new office was officially opened by His Excellency Khalid bin Salem Al Ghammari, Oman’s Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labour for Labour Affairs, in the presence of Her Excellency Shaikha Najwa bint Abdulrahman Al Thani, Qatar’s Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labour.

Speaking at the inauguration, His Excellency Al Ghammari emphasised the significance of this collaborative endeavour, pointing out that the joint initiative is a significant step in Gulf labour integration. He stated that it reinforces the ministry’s commitment of extending national talent development beyond borders and into regional platforms that reward innovation and professionalism.

The establishment of this office is a direct outcome of a Memorandum of Understanding previously signed between Oman and Qatar. Serving as a crucial institutional bridge, the office will play a vital role in coordinating employment opportunities, providing valuable insights into the Qatari labour market, and extending comprehensive support to Omanis currently working or seeking employment within the country.

Key functions of the newly established labour office include liaising closely with Qatari authorities to identify and actively promote job vacancies suitable for Omani nationals; building strong public-private partnerships to facilitate direct recruitment processes and the development of joint training programmes; organising regular informative seminars to educate Omani nationals on Qatar’s labour regulations and the nuances of its work environment; offering dedicated career counselling and a range of support services tailored to the needs of Omanis residing in Qatar; and monitoring prevailing labour market trends and providing informed policy recommendations aimed at enhancing overall employment strategies.

“This is a strategic step within the ministry’s efforts to enhance bilateral cooperation with its brothers in the State of Qatar in the fields of employment and human resources development, and to invest in Omani competencies in the Gulf labour markets. The initiative aligns with Oman Vision 2040, which prioritizes economic diversification, human capital development, and stronger regional cooperation,” stated the Ministry in an official announcement.

The Ministry of Labour confirmed that the office is the first of several strategic initiatives aimed at increasing Oman’s presence in advanced Gulf labour markets, offering young professionals access to quality employment and training in sectors aligned with future-ready skills.
